I recently found a box of negatives mainly from 1982 that I didn't even remember having. I lost a lot of original images during Hurricane Sandy and thought most of this early stuff was part of it. It has been a treat editing, scanning and remembering a lot of this earliest time in my career. These three images were part of a picture story I did for The News Herald in Morganton, NC, which I really wish I had a clip of. Henry River in Burke County was a pretty much abandoned mill town in that time period and I can still remember walking around its houses and meeting the few people who still lived there. I moved away shortly after I shot this and it never came back into my consiousness until The Hunger Games debuted. Some of the buildings at Henry River between Morganton and Hickory were used as District 12 in the movie. The one-time general store was the District 12 bakery, and one of the mill row houses served as the home of Katniss Everdeen.
