Jay Cochrane is congratulated by Susan Anton and the Rockettes following his World Record blindfolded skywalk in Las Vegas in November 1998 and was broadcast on FOX Network's "Guinness World Records: Primetime" on Tuesday, February 23, 1999.
On Nov. 11, 1998, Jay Cochrane put on a blindfold and walked 300 feet above the lights of Las Vegas between the towers of the Flamingo Hilton, a distance of 800 feet. Produced for FOX Network's "Guinness World Records: Primetime," Jay earned a world skywalking record for the highest and longest blindfolded skywalk, which took 15 minutes to complete. He removed the tether line which the producers forced him to create, and began the walk before anyone realized. It became a major plotline in the show.
Susan Anton was one of Jay’s favorite performers and when I found out she was performing at the same hotel, I worked with her publicist to make the two meet. That led to her bringing Jay onstage at the beginning of her show after he finished his skywalk. She was as lovely a person as we were told.
