I travelled to Washington, DC, all through the 1990s on assignments for sports and politics. I loved the Washington Monument and the grand dome of the Capitol building. The light was special on this evening and the perspective made the flags look as large as the two iconic structures.
The grandeur of Washington D.C. is a photographer's dream. The 555-foot-high Washington Monument was the tallest structure in the world when it was dedicated on Feb. 21, 1885. At noon on December 2, 1863, a solemn ceremony marked completion of the Capital Dome and the placement of the Statue of Freedom on its crest. The 50-star flags lining the plaza were adopted July 4, 1960. Amazing American history in one frame.
