The Macy's Fourth of July fireworks in 2017 were on the East River, a different set up than usual.

I was invited to a party atop a penthouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park with a spectacular view up the East River that aligned with several of Macy's barges launching the show. From this vantage point, the Manhattan Bridge became my foreground subject as the bursts of color in blue gave a ghostly effect to its columns and cables.

Shooting with an extreme telephoto lens let me compress the explosions from several of the launch barges positioned up the river into the one frame, filling the sky.
